*This is both a reference to 1950's "Vin americanii" (when everyone wished for the Americans to come and save us from Communism) AND almost certainly to NATO intervention in Yugoslavia in the late 90s (Guţă is from Hunedoara county, not far from Banat, the border with Serbia. There was certainly some anti-American feeling in the Serb community there)

"Stocks or coupons" refers to the coupons distributed by the Romanian state after the fall of Communism, with which every citizen could buy a share in a state-owned company. Though in theory it was "one person - one coupon", poor people would sell their coupons to businessmen.

* This is a reference to a saying in the Banat Region, "Cal verde şi sârb cuminte / deştept", meaning "A green horse and a peaceful / smart Serb" (impossible things)
